Video Games, also known as Electronic Games, are such that players deploy in-put device or game controllers like button, keyboard and joystick, to interact with video display device in an electronic system, namely the platform, which can be provided by PC, arcade coin-operated machines or hand-held device such as mobile phone and Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) etc.

Since the advent of the first video game until now, the video game industry has witnessed an evolution in both playing mode and game genre. With the support of progressive technology and widespread internet, now video games are designed to allow for more players to engage cooperatively or competitively with diversified controllers and assistant device. As to the genre, in accordance with the content it can be categorized into three types, that is, Core games, Casual games, and Serious games. Each type is designed with its own focus and emphasis with Core games intensive, Casual games easily-accessible and Serious ones learning-oriented. Thus, each can meet the needs of specific groups of players with different purposes.

Intriguing and entertaining as it is, the video game has captured so many followers that it has made its existence a hotly-debated social issue, or rather a double-edging sword as defined by some socialists. On the one hand, video game can be a blessing in that players can unconsciously pick up certain skills via playing games, such as stronger coordination between hand and eye, greater capability to handle multi-tasks, better analytic ability, longer attention span and so on. On the other hand, it can turn out to be a curse with its addictive nature as well as the potential harmful contents concerning violence and pornography.

Video games can not be defined as good or bad; the answer lies in people, or more exactly lies in game designers, players and supervisors. With concerted efforts, it is not unattainable for video games to be enjoyable, educational and conducive to public.
